CATIA Threshold Lattice

2 11 2009

I have recently started scripting in CATIA. While Rhino is great for conceptual design and intuitive designing, CATIA has a much more robust kernel that allows for the display of hundreds of thousands of parts that can all maintain associativity. This type of program also offers the opportunity for associative documentation and manufacturing information.

This is a simple recreation of my threshold lattice script using powercopies and automated part instantiation.

There are very few resources out there for learning catia on your own. I have been using it for a couple of years and I would not consider myself a master. It is a difficult program. If your company is investing in a couple of licenses you could try and convince them that it may be a good idea to get some training from gehry technologies or dassault. The expense of buying the program isnt really worth it if the end users cant operate it. Otherwise there are some brief tutorials available over torrent sites and on youtube.
